Course Overview
This systematic review aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of surgical (invasive) and non-surgical (non-invasive) techniques in accelerating orthodontic tooth movement (OTM). It also ascertains the influence of different orthodontic appliances on the rate of tooth movement and analyzes their clinical applicability as supportive approaches in orthodontic treatment. The review found that corticotomy exhibited the highest acceleration potential among surgical techniques, while vibration and photobiomodulation (PBM) showed promising results among non-surgical techniques due to their non-invasiveness and effectiveness in accelerating tooth movement. The review concluded that there is some evidence for the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy and surgical methods in accelerating tooth movement, but very weak evidence for vibration.
